Wally World @ Southwest Cargo |
It is no exaggeration to suppose that as long as Southwest Airlines Cargo has been in business, Wally Devereaux has been part of it. No doubt, this always affable and easy-to-do business with cargo executive has been a positive force for good, situate at the top longer than anybody else at a cargo-carrying airline, Not hard to understand why Wally has been a leader and key factor because when you talk to his customers, his team and others in this business, the discovery is that despite whatever else might be going on at the airline, Wally is the steady hand that is up front and on the case in all manner whatever else is going on. “I’m getting close to completing my 33rd year with Southwest Airlines with 25 of those being in the Cargo business,” Wally told me. “I began my career at Dallas Love Field as a Customer Service Agent in February of 1992! “After stops in several different departments around the company, found my way to Cargo Sales in 1999. “It’s been an incredible journey thus far and in 2024, I am still as passionate about the cargo business as I was when I joined the team. “The one thing that was true when I started,” Wally declared, “and that’s still true today is that Southwest Airlines is incredibly reliable when it comes to moving Cargo. “Our service is built from the ground up on a powerful flight schedule that now includes over 4,000 daily flights and is executed on by thousands of Southwest Airlines employees that care about this business.” Southwest earnings YTD through three quarters include cargo generating $131M which is essentially flat on a YoY basis. “Our business,” Wally said, “is primarily composed of U.S. domestic volume with some international volume in Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America.” Southwest plans looking ahead for the remainder of 2024 and into 2025 include: • Red eye flight service from multiple markets including LAX, SFO, PHX, SEA, PDX, ONT, HNL, and several other locations. • Continued expansion of Southwest Rapid Rewards Cargo program which offers Rapid Rewards points to Southwest Cargo Customers. • The grand opening of our new DEN Cargo facility during the first quarter. Wally Devereaux smiles and says: “What still drives me the most is doing what I can to help our cargo team provide an exceptional service that they can be proud of, and to contribute to the success of Southwest Airlines. “We have delivered a determined passionate, truly amazing team of folks in cargo across our system. Am very thankful to be a part of the team,” Wally assures. Wally said he is looking forward to TIACA this weekat Miami Convention Center November 12-14. “It’s always good to attend TIACA to catch up with friends and colleagues, and I’m looking forward to a great and informative event as always,” Wally Devereaux concluded. |
