Beatles Day At JFK

Beatles Day At JFK

It was 60 years ago on February 7, that the Beatles arrived at JFK!
It has already been ten years since FlyingTypers published one of our most popular pieces. Click to read. It is rare enough that articles from an air cargo publication get reshared among Beatles fan groups and sites but this one touched Pan Am alumni, aviation buffs and others who agreed they’d never read anything quite like it about one of the most researched phenomena of the past century.
The piece and its sequel detailing the Beatles arrival at LAX were repurposed as a chapter in the book “Pan Am: Personal Tributes to A Global Aviation Pioneer” – published by the Pan Am Historical Foundation and now part of the permanent Smithsonian Institution collection.
A notable Beatles biographer has indicated that the piece will be used as a reference in the next volume of a multi-tome series.
The piece made temporary celebrities of the individuals we interviewed – as former Pan Am flight attendant Gillian L'Eplattenier (later Jill Kellogg) was invited to join the mayor of Liverpool as The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey dedicated a plaque commemorating the 50th anniversary in a ceremony at JFK and was added to the honored guests at the annual Fest for Beatles fans which is celebrating the 60th anniversary at the TWA hotel in JFK. https://lnkd.in/eMJMAf5G.
We are pleased to share that Day of Beatles At JFK 60 years ago and the Beatles visit to LAX. https://lnkd.in/ejfFT4za and https://lnkd.in/ebbP3a7C
Both were created for this publication by Michael Webber, an air cargo airport specialist who, our regular readers will recall delivered an impassioned tribute at the passing of airport builder Daniel Muscatello this past January.

Jim Larsen, The Beatles

Air Cargo Was There
Today, as we celebrate the Beatles, we have the additional pleasure of pairing this piece with what I uncovered last year about long-time JFK air cargo champion Jim Larsen, an air cargo marketing director at The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, the greatest air cargo airport advocate any airport has ever seen. Jim provided this remarkable first-hand experience of being on the ramp at JFK as the Beatles were transferred from aircraft to the terminal. This nugget of remembrance by Jim, who we spoke to last week (84) at his home in Lakehurst, New Jersey will make you smile, as he captures that day's excitement perfectly. Click Here to Read.
