Black Friday follows
Thanksgiving Day in the United States (the fourth Thursday of November),
and it is regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.
Across the land, retailers open extremely
early, offering promotional sales to kick off the holiday shopping season,
similar to Boxing Day sales in many nations.
Black Friday is a retailer’s term.
It refers to when many retailers move from a financial loss ("in
the red," January through November) to being "in the black"—Black
Friday marks the day when a rush of Christmas shoppers allows retailers
to turn a profit.
If all of this sounds like business is hanging
by a thread, don’t believe it.
And don’t disregard the many prayers
floating skyward for better weather in the coming months!
