Over
100 industry faithful gathered on Wednesday in Castle Jagdschloss Platte,
a hunting lodge perched atop a mountain in beautiful Wiesbaden, Germany,
to say thanks, auf wiedersehen, and alles gute to Dr. Andreas Otto, as
the long time board member of product & sales at Lufthansa Cargo departed
for the post of chief operating officer at Austrian Airlines.
A picture of Andreas and his wife Kirsten
says it all, as they are seen here celebrated by some wonderful air cargo
people, including colleagues, customers, and forwarder partners who arrived
from all over the world.
Of his fourteen plus years at Lufthansa,
Dr. Otto said he would most miss the great team at the carrier and the
many people he worked for and with during his tenure.
He also renewed the call to action he first
delivered in a keynote speech at CNS Partnership Conference some years
back: that the air cargo business must do more to work together for the
greater good of the industry, and become less focused on individual short-term
goals.
But this was a night for celebration, intimate,
sweet, and very personal.
Archie da Silva, managing director of Jet-Speed
Air Cargo Forwarders said it best:
“Andreas came into this business from
waste management and turned out to be one of the greats in air cargo,
and beyond that a wonderful friend, always dependable.”
Thomas Reuter, CEO Dascher, said simply:
“Andreas
was always there for us and his hand was always his bond.
You could always depend in front of any
transaction that what Andreas said would not be altered or vary once an
agreement was reached.
“He will be missed,” Herr Reuter
said.
The evening was supple, sumptuous, and primed
for fun.
Two greats together again for the first time, (L-R)
former and current vice presidents, the Americas, Klaus Holler (left)
and Achim Martinka, (right) celebrate Andreas in Wiesbaden.
