Seeing racing cars being loaded into an airplane’s main deck is the oldest gag in air cargo publishing, probably since WWII, when it was fairly common to view a Jeep being loaded into a C47 (DC-3). In late summer 2015 DHL and VG Cargo have reinvigorated the gag with the movement of 31 racing cars loaded at Frankfurt Hahn Airport and bound for the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in Austin, Texas, on September 19. More than 400 tons of freight were loaded onto B747-4Fs, distributed over four flights and flown to the U.S. “We are looking forward to seeing the cars in action,” says Hahn spokeswoman Hanna Koch, while keeping a weathered eye out for the next big shipment. “From delivery to loading we work hand-in-hand and in doing so we ensure that these high-value vehicles are moved safely and efficiently,” Hanna Hahn assures.
