CO Floats Small Packages

At the grand opening celebration of Continental Airlines new New York QuickPak service, from left to right are William A. Meehan, Senior VP Field Services, Angel Ramirez, Director Cargo Services, Newark Liberty International Airport and Jack Boisen, Vice President Cargo.

“This is the quickest and most reliable way to get vital packages to and from Manhattan.
“We believe this is a better idea because it cuts hours off the current express options into JFK, said Continental’s Vice President-Cargo Division, Jack Boisen.
In the big air cargo game it is still about innovation and execution.
It was a beautiful early Autumn in New York evening November 1.
With the skyline of Manhattan as backdrop Continental Airlines Cargo once again displayed the power of its creative energy, debuting an across the water connection that can move the highly regarded CO QUICKPAK product to and from New York City for immediate shipment via the carrier’s hub at Newark International Airport, every few minutes all day long.
“The idea is to get must ride shipments to our airplanes and customers via our dedicated staff and ground vehicles stationed at Weehawken where the New York Waterway ferries berth,” Mr. Boisen said.
“Our new express product cuts hours off transit times of critical small packages to and from Manhattan and onward to our other destinations worldwide.
“In one scenario we combine red eye flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego, Portland, Phoenix or Las Vegas arriving into Newark Liberty International Airport around 6:00 a.m.—with the frequent passenger ferry services of the New York Waterway (NYWW).
“With a fast ramp transfer of packages from Liberty International Airport, via secured van to the Imperial Terminal at the Hudson River, critical shipments speed across the river and arrive into Midtown Manhattan by 7:40 a.m.
“Arrival point is Continental’s QUICKPAK counter at the New York Waterway 39th Street Terminal.
“Outbound from Manhattan we are utilizing a two hour closeout window at the 39th Street Terminal.
“Shippers can access the fastest service available to Continental’s extensive European and domestic network.
Looking ahead as a cool wind whipped across the water reminding that winter is waiting in the wings, Jack Boisen added:
“This is the only service of its kind in the New York market, and the river never freezes.”
