What Makes
Ashwin Run?
|
Ashwin Bhat was named chief cargo officer at highly respected SWISS WorldCargo earlier this week, and he may be the top airline cargo executive in the world. He hits the ground running, indicating that he aims to make a good thing even better: I am honored and privileged to be nominated to lead this successful organization when we are entering a growth phase with the induction of B-777s into the SWISS fleet during 2016 and 2017. At the same time, I am humbled by all the positive words that have come my way after the announcement. The celebrations can wait as our job is cut out for us in today’s tough market environment. For us, our first focus is to get as much as possible from Oliver [Evans] as we continue to uncover (with his help) his magic tricks and potions to run a successful organization, as he has done for the last decade. Even though I am an internal candidate, it’s important that Oliver and I jointly visit and dialogue with our key partners—both customers and suppliers—so that they can hear a voice of continuity and we can give them the trust that they will experience the same engagement and service quality from SWC as in the past. Our service partners should not be troubled or interrupted due to an internal change of SWC. To paraphrase Charles Dickens, ‘it is the worst of times and it's the best of times, it's the age of foolishness and it's the age of wisdom.’ We will seek out opportunities. SWC has a clear mission and clear vision. I have a team that is motivated to implement a strategy that we have jointly defined. My focus is upon the wisdom of my team to grow and develop/adapt upon the strong foundation that has been created and left in place. Geoffrey |
