Jyoti DHL India Livewire

Jyoti DHL India Livewire

The travel and banking businesses lost their opportunity to cling on to a livewire like Jyoti Row Kavi. That was more than eight years ago. Today, Jyoti holds the fort for DHL.
As Head of Corporate Communications & Sustainability for DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Supply Chain, the suave lady handles all questions—the tough as well as the easy ones—with finesse.

“My function involves overseeing all external and internal communications along with Corporate Social Responsibility,” she told us.
Never at a loss for words (we understand that is her job), she is quite candid about her love for the cargo business.
“I thought it would be interesting to venture into a completely new industry, of which I had very little knowledge. Unlike a lot of my peers who are from the industry, it was all completely new to me, [and] way more complex and interesting than I had imagined,” she told ACNFT when we asked her about what made her move away from travel and banking.
“I’ve completed eight years with DHL and have enjoyed the ride,” she said, quickly adding that it has “been a great learning experience for me and that’s what makes it interesting.”
The first few months were a bit tough: “At first, I was overwhelmed with all the acronyms that were used in the forwarding industry, but got used to it as time went by.”
Professional to the core, Jyoti was not too worried about being the lone woman among men. “I really don’t think it matters whether you’re a man or a woman, as long as you deliver a good job,” she said.      And her male co-workers “have always treated me like the professional that I am.”
And when we popped the question about the cargo industry, an animated Jyoti said, “This industry connects people, while improving and touching lives. From delivering critical medicines and automotive spares to working in sectors as diverse as retail, consumer, technology, energy, and chemicals… we cover it all. That is fascinating to me.”
Logistics has made her aware of her surroundings and the world. In addition, “logistics being the very backbone of our economy, its potential is unimaginable.” With the phenomenal development of e-commerce, coupled with the expected growth of other industries, logistics will play a significant role in the India story, she felt. And of course, “it’s definitely the place to be in … if you’re prepared to work hard and reap the benefits of your efforts in a buoyant industry!”
