New Cargo Complex
At QRO
The new (2004) Querétaro
International Airport (QRO) had its first stone ceremony for its new air
cargo center a few weeks ago that was attended by Minister of Sustainable
Development Renato López Otamendi and aviation dignitaries from
across Mexico.
Airport Director Jaime Zamorano and Minister
López Otamendi met with representatives of several cargo companies
and forwarders who were seeking efficient alternative airports to Mexico
City for cargo destined for the Querétaro and Guanajuato region
of central Mexico.
Groundbreaking for the new air cargo complex
was just one of several recent development initiatives at the sparkling
new airport located just 140 miles north of Mexico City.
In Querétaro State there are more
than 600 firms that generate nine thousand jobs for industry.
Import/export information up to July 2006
puts exports at more than 4 billion dollars and imports at about 6.2 billion
dollars.
Minister López Otamendi, said:
“With most goods moving via Mexico
City, we see a huge opportunity for air cargo at Querétaro International
Airport.”
Querétaro, the original capitol of
Mexico, opened its new international airport just over a year ago and
it already has attracted international acclaim as evidenced by its selection
by Bombardier for its assembly and distribution center for the Americas.
Groundbreaking for the Bombardier complex was
held just a month ago and featured Mexico President Vicente Fox, Bombardier’s
senior management team, Governor Garrido and a host of aviation leaders
from Mexico and the United States.
“The new cargo center will feature
separate areas for inbound and outbound cargo, customs inspection services
and acres of aircraft parking area.
“The facility is scheduled to be ready
for operations in early 2007 and will be operated by Terminal Logistics
of Mexico City under the direction of Luis Felipe Rivas.
