Why Are These Two Smiling? |
Brussels Airport all-pro executive Jean-Claude Delen, who also serves the air cargo community as FIATA treasurer and board member, does not wear a green eyeshade or garters on his sleeves, as some traditional moneymen and bank accountants once did. But JC—as everyone calls the amiable and easy going gentleman—does, like all moneymen, reflect a somewhat serious nature. It’s right around budget time and we were wondering what, if anything, makes him crack a smile. Well, picture this: JC and Joana Nunes Coelho, Executive President of Associação dos Transitários de Portugal - APAT (Freight Forwarders Association of Portugal) are shown at the FIATA Headquarters Session in Zurich last week. IATA and FIATA have struck a landmark deal that many thought was impossible. You’ll pardon the happy smiling faces, but something good is going on here. “The IATA FIATA Air Cargo Program (IFACP), which both parties have been working to realize for the past four years, now heralds the dawn of a new era; of a true partnership between the major drivers of air cargo in the world,” JC smiles. IFACP Governance Manager Joana is on point as IFACP gets underway and was equally effusive. “[We’re] replacing the existing IATA Cargo Agency Program,” Joana said. “IFACP better reflects the new business models and the buyer-seller relationship that exists today between forwarders and airlines. “With the establishment of a global IATA-FIATA Governance Board (IFGB), the industry will be better equipped to achieve key goals including: e-cargo priorities of greater efficiency and shared values, clarifying of supply chain liability, improving compliance with safety and security standards through a more coordinated and concerted industry approach.” JC Delen adds: “It’s so exciting for all of us after so many years of frustration, hope, and plain hard work; we can now see and feel the real benefit of something completely different and wonderful about to happen because of our efforts and growing good will all around.” Rolling On Out The program rollout has already begun with
a preliminary meeting among some forwarders in Canada, FT learned. I'm A Dreamer Montreal? The “IFACP Road Show,” which
formally kicks off the test phase in Canada, is still awaiting a couple
of approvals and should be underway shortly with appearances by Joana
and her team in Montreal and Toronto. |
